Students from these countries are usually not capable of funding their professional studies. They can neither go abroad nor study in their home countries due to their financial crunches.

There are numerous scholarships that are reserved for students from African countries. Their sponsors are universities, governments, privately-owned companies, not-for-profit organizations, commonwealth, etc.

  • Taita Taveta University Scholarships (Kenya):

The CEMEREM scholarship program at the Taita Taveta University is giving out partially and fully-funded scholarships to outstanding master’s students. These candidates must be studying MSc. in any one of the subject areas:

Students from certain nationalities are eligible to apply. Applicants can only be from, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Sudan, and Rwanda.

This scholarship program is sponsored by the Kenyan county governmentThe purpose of it is to help those underprivileged students who want to study for a bachelor’s in Kenya. Only the citizens of Kenya can apply for this scholarship. Applicants must be studying in any one of the following fields:

      2. Medicine
      3. Agriculture
      4. ICT
  • Fellowship by the University of Ghana:

The University of Ghana’s UG-Tullow Tertiary Scholarship program is providing scholarships at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It is a fully-funded scholarship program that funds recipients, tuition, healthcare, and housing.

It also gives a monthly stipend for students to pay off their living expenses and an allowance for purchasing a laptop for study purposes. The fellowship is given for one year at the master’s level and for four years at the bachelor’s level. Applicants have to be financially in need of the scholarship. Only students from Ghana can apply.

  • Ph.D. fellowships by the University of Makerere in Uganda:

There are two open positions for pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Makerere in Uganda. It is a research position regarding Certifications of Citizenship in Africa (CERTIZENS) and is available in the department of development studies. Students from all over Africa can apply for this scholarship.

The fellowship is fully funded and the recipients will be entitled to a number of benefits like tuition fee waiver, accommodation allowance, healthcare insurance, research expense support, travel cost coverage incurred for research purposes, for attending conferences and workshops.

The fellowship is worth up to 4,015,000 UGX which is equal to 11 grand (USD). Each recipient will also get a laptop.

  • Mediterranean School of Business (Tunisia) scholarships:

Mediterranean School of Business in Tunisia’s Diversity Scholarship program is offering a tuition fee waiver of up to 30%. Students at the under and postgraduate levels of study can apply provided that they belong to an emerging or developing nation (including countries of Africa).

Applicants should have an impressive academic record. They are also required to submit an updated resume. The university’s flagship program is its MBA program.

  • Fellowships by the American University of Cairo:

The American University of Cairo’s Graduate School of Education (GSE) is giving out scholarships at the postgraduate level. Under this scholarship program, the students will conduct first-hand research under an experienced and competent faculty member.

All the subject areas are affiliated with this fellowship. It offers a tuition fee waiver for three credits per semester. Recipients who are taking English language classes or other preliminary courses can get funding for their classes as well. Both international (particularly students from Africa) and local students can apply.

  • American Gifted Foundation Awards:

These scholarships are available at the African University in Ghana (Africa). These are sponsored by American Gifted Foundation. Students at the undergraduate levels can apply so long as they belong to an African country.

The African University in Ghana is offering a variety of bachelor’s programs and short courses that are internationally recognized. The worth of the scholarship is 5,000 GBP which is enough to cover the tuition and accommodation expenses of its recipients.

  • Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Grants:

This is a research-based grant which is given for conducting research on the conversion of waste materials into an energy source. Students have to be studying at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and they can apply to this scholarship if they are from Africa. Recipients will be given a 100% tuition fee waiver. The areas of study affiliated with it are:

      2. Bioengineering
      3. Chemical Engineering
      4. Biosystems Engineering

This is a postgraduate award and is available to students pursuing an MPhil. in any of the aforementioned fields.

  • National Health Research Scholarships:

The scholarships by the National Health Research are only available to students from Zambia. Students have to carry out research in any of the healthcare disciplines. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience of research in the health care area. Their research and personal expenses will be covered under this scholarship program.
