The GEWEE Expert will provide technical advisory assistance to the USAID-funded Africa Trade and Investment (ATI) program that is designed to bolster the U.S Government’s ability to boost trade and investment to, from, and within the African continent.
The continent-wide program is USAID’s flagship effort in support of the Prosper Africa Initiative and will expand and accelerate two-way trade and investment between African nations and the United States. The GEWEE Expert will elevate gender equality into enterprise-driven solutions to increase equitable outcomes supporting women’s full and fairly compensated economic participation and advancement at small-scale and large-scale trade and investment activities.

Gender Equality and Women’s Economic Empowerment Expert (South Africa)
Banyan Global is seeking South African candidates currently based in the country for this assignment. Applicants must be able to travel throughout the continent.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide technical leadership on integrating GEWEE considerations across all ATI project activities. • Design and implement GEWEE trainings, tools, and programming to support ATI objectives.
• Provide technical assistance across ATI program activities covering trade and investment to increase equitable outcomes of small-scale to large-scale trade and investment in North and Sub-Saharan Africa.
• Deliver GEWEE advisory support to ATI partners in the design and implementation of ATI-funded programming.
• Deliver GEWEE advisory support to ATI on its scopes of work, monitoring and evaluation plans, and other internal documents to ensure gender and social inclusion is integrated, measured, and assessed.
• Identify and supervise technical experts to undertake research, training, and other technical GEWEE assignments across Africa.
• Ensure quality control and timeliness of all GEWEE deliverables.
• Serve as the principal GEWEE liaison with ATI staff; network with African institutions working on GEWEE issues; and collaborate on learning events and conferences, including presenting on relevant topics and/or ATI GEWEE learning.
• Make verbal or written presentations to a range of audiences, including USAID missions, interagency groups, and development partners on key GEWEE topics.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Master’s degree in international development with an emphasis on trade, investment, economic growth, gender and development, or another relevant social sciences field. • At least 7 years of experience in gender and economic growth in Africa. • Experience designing and delivering GEWEE training and technical assistance to public and private sector representatives in Africa. • Extensive experience working across Sub-Saharan Africa. • Direct experience in designing, managing and implementation cross-cutting programs related to GEWEE. • Superior speaking and writing skills in English are required.
